Apothecarve started with the curiosity of whittling.

I had always wanted to make something with my hands that would last a lifetime. Spoons were always the epitome of this desire. As a long time hair stylist I've been working with my hands for years. But haircuts and color always grow out. With the proper care wooden heirlooms can be handed down for generations. With this desire and my love for cooking and baking blossomed a talent I didn't realize I had all along. My focus has always been wooden kitchen heirlooms. My goal is to bring beauty and joy to your day. I carve each heirloom with a specific purpose and hope it brings intention to your life.

Over the past year I have learned how to make brooms from the very talented and knowledgeable Cynthia Main of Sunhouse Craft. I took at hand broom class with the intention of just having fun, learning something knew and getting out of the house. I came home and couldn’t stop from looking and dreaming about how I could incorporate brooms into my business. It didn’t take long for me to realize they went perfectly with my wood heirlooms and it wasn’t a far fetch. So I just started making them. I made my way to Cynthia’s studio again to learn full sized brooms. I now have such an admiration for this heritage craft. I hope you love the addition of this offering to my heirlooms as much as I do.

I grew up in a small town in somewhere America like most people do. My small town happened to be in northern Illinois. I met my husband in my early twenties. After our wedding in 2013 we made a big move to the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. We both have longed to be out of the rat race for a long while. Then during the pandemic and the birth our child we were able to move a little closer to this dream. My maternity leave lasted a lot longer than planned. When giving birth to our son I sustained a nerve injury and couldn't feel my feet or legs for almost 6 months. On Christmas Eve of 2020 we had a bad storm where a tree fell. I was swimming in apple wood and thought this would be the best time to feed my curiosity of whittling. I carved my first spoon from that tree and quickly learned that working with green wood is pretty hard due to easy cracking. I made the switch to dried woods and started Apothecarve in July of 2021. Here we are two years later and I'm so humbled to have my heirlooms out in the world and in your kitchen.

My hopes and dreams are to eventually be able to do Apothecarve full time. Every purchase you make helps me get that much closer to my dream.

Our long term dream as a family is to have a beautiful homestead with a workshop for both mine and my husbands business. I would love to have a little gift shop in the front for customers to come shop with us and see our process.

I hope you find something that brings a smile to your face and you can add to your daily routine. Enjoy!

Carved with intention, Intended for everyday.
